Following the mass shooting at Club Q, a LGBTQIA+ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Illinois State University's President Terri Goss Kinzy sent out an email to the campus community Monday afternoon offering her support.

Following the mass shooting at Club Q, a LGBTQIA+ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Illinois State University President Terri Goss Kinzy sent out an email to the campus community offering her support.

The email, sent out Monday afternoon, said that ISU denounces the shooting and stands with the LGBTQIA+ community on campus. Kinzy said the university is committed to creating a safe and equal place for all students.

Kinzy said she continues to work with LGBTQIA+ student, faculty and staff organizations and the president’s Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council to ensure every student feels safe and affirmed on campus.

The shooting killed five people and injured 18 others late Saturday night. The suspect was taken into police custody and is being treated at a local hospital.

Kinzy said in her email that if anyone sees someone being threatened to call 911.

She also shared resources to report bias-related incidents and said that students, faculty and staff can report concerns of discrimination or harassment to the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access.
