9/11 option 1

Coral Springs/Parkland Fire and Rescue ladder truck raise a flag before the 9/11 memorial service in Coral Springs in 2018.

In honor of 9/11, two events in the Bloomington-Normal area are set to commemorate those who served during the attacks and those who lost their lives.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday in the northeast corner of Miller Park to honor first responders.

The service will consist of a flyover, a firefighter's ceremony, police, a rifle salute by the American Legion Honor Guard and the playing of Taps and bagpipes.

In Normal, the Red, White and Blue Rally will be taking place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Corn Crib Stadium.

The rally will begin with a flag ceremony by VFW Post 454, followed by a softball tournament between firefighters, police and first responders. There will also be a variety of free activities for families.
