Zack Annexstad (left) and Zeke Vandenburgh took home Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.

Following Illinois State football's 35-7 win over Eastern Illinois Saturday, quarterback Zack Annexstad and linebacker Zeke Vandenburgh were named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.

This is the second-straight week that the Redbirds have had two players earn weekly conference awards, with Vandenburgh earning his second of the season and third of his career and Annexstad taking home his first.

Also or the second-straight week, Annexstad accounted for three total touchdowns for the ISU offense. He threw his third and fourth touchdown passes of the season to J'Kalon Carter and Daniel Sobkowicz before running in his second touchdown of the season from two yards out. For the game, Annexstad went 19-33 for 212 yards.

Vandenburgh picked up right where he left off last week, doing a little bit of everything for the ISU defense. The Freeport, Illinois, native tallied eight tackles, three tackles-for-loss, two quarterback hurries, a sack, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup that led to an interception.

Vandenburgh is now up to an impressive 30 tackles on the season to go with five sacks and seven tackles-for-loss.
