Alex McCulla watches his chip during the Bearcat Invitational over the weekend. McCulla finished second in the strong field with a three-round score of 207. 

Following a second-place finish at the Bearcat Invitational, Illinois State men's golf senior Alex McCulla has been named Missouri Valley Conference Co-Golfer of the Week. 

With the Redbirds finishing fourth out of 13 teams with a score of 853, McCulla would take charge, shooting a 207 over the three rounds. 

After an opening round 71, the Quincy, Illinois, native caught fire. He would come back with a four-under-par 67 in the second round before closing out the tournament with a 69 in the final round. 

On the season, McCulla is now averaging a solid 72.1 strokes per round while pushing his career average to 74.3.
