Illinois State freshman running back Cole Mueller has been named Missouri Valley Football Conference Player and Newcomer of the Week after a career game against South Dakota on Saturday.

Mueller broke through virtually untouched for a 69-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that put the Redbirds up 10-0. Mueller finished the game with 178 rushing yards. It marked the third 100-yard rushing performance of the season for Muelller.

The freshman leads ISU this season with 578 rushing yards and three touchdowns while averaging 82 rushing yards a game.
