Following yet another strong performance in Illinois State baseball's Missouri Valley Conference-opening loss to Belmont, Derek Salata was named one of five National Pitchers of the Week by Collegiate Baseball News.Â
Salata shone in the loss by allowing just five hits and no earned runs while striking out 11 batters in six innings of work.
He has put up an ERA of just 1.95 and has allowed an opponent batting average of .236 across 27.2 innings pitched this season.
He has 43 strikeouts this season and has recorded 10 or more in three of his five starts.Â
