Illinois State football will be without starting quarterback Bryce Jefferson for its upcoming matchup with Southern Illinois.
Freshman quarterback Jackson Waring will get the reigns to open the Missouri Valley Football Conference season. Waring came in during ISU's 31-24 win over Eastern Illinois after Jefferson sprained his AC joint on a third down scramble.
Waring finished the game with 5-for-7 passing for 15-yards while rushing for 28-yards and a touchdown.
Waring and the Redbirds will be in action at 2 p.m. at Saluki Stadium in Carbondale.
